A baby moon (vacation by any other name is just as sweet)

Submitted by greg on Mon, 01/25/2010 - 13:58

We decided to go on a "Baby Moon" last weekend and had a great time.

What is a babymoon?

A babymoon is basically a vacation for expecting parents before the baby comes along and puts a real cramp on the trips you can take. Of course, being pregnant cuts down on where you might be willing to travel, the things you can eat/drink, and the activities you can do. So, a baby moon is most likely going to be a relaxing vacation to somewhere easy to get to.

Names For Baby Knaddison (that we are NOT going to choose)

Submitted by greg on Sat, 01/09/2010 - 15:03

We don't know what name we are going to choose. Heck, we don't even know the baby's sex. Here are some names (serious and otherwise) that we are not going use.

  • Maddison - Madison Knaddison? A rhyming name? Really? This is our favorite answer when people ask us what the name will be.
  • Isabela - This actually was our favorite ever since a trip to Spain 2003 when we visited a garden that was originally built by Queen Isabela, but we feel like the twilight series has made it a bit too common.
  • Maya - Nikki likes. Greg vetos.
  • Melissa - Greg likes. Nikki has had two bosses with this name. No matter how much you like your boss, you can't name your baby after them.
  • Hugo - just no. Sorry, chavez.

The best pregnancy advice I've gotten so far

Submitted by nikki on Mon, 11/09/2009 - 11:22
  1. Trust yourself (and your nose!). Evolution is a pretty amazing thing, and your body naturally adjusts to protect a baby. My body, for examples, was very averse to drinking alcohol and coffee the first several months of pregnancy. Being a wine and coffee lover, I was concerned about how I would live without my vices. My body, however, took away any temptation. Another interesting thing is that your sense of smell is extremely sensitive in order to protect you from hazards to your baby. I forgot that painting while pregnant was potentially dangerous, but when I opened a paint can and smelled the concentrated fumes, I realized it probably wasn't a good idea. I've also avoided foods that were potentially past due because of my new-found sensitivity.

How early do babies mimic their native language?

How early do babies produce language?

According to a recent study about babies and language explored by NPR, babies may start to imitate their native language much earlier than previously thought: from their first cries.

Scientists recorded 30 French babies crying in their first days of life and compared them to the sounds of 30 German babies. They found that French babies tended to cry with a rising melody while German babies had a falling melody true to the sound of their native language pitch difference.

Where to buy maternity clothes in Denver

Submitted by nikki on Mon, 10/26/2009 - 11:12

Most women probably don't want to spend an excessive amount of money on maternity clothes since they'll only be wearing them for a limited time, so it's helpful to know where to go.

  • The Gap Maternity located in the Cherry Creek Mall has the best maternity clothes I've come across for the best price. They also have large comfortable fitting rooms complete with a belly you can strap on to see if that shirt will still fit you when you're 9 months.
  • Ross Dress for Less has some good cheap maternity options, and has maternity clothes in all of their locations.
