Here are some Lucy videos for folks.
Use "lucy" to watch them.
Tonight Lucy is being really talkative. She's saying all sorts of things and being pretty loud and has been going for about a half hour now non stop.
Then she made a bit of a "frown/smile" face. Nikki looked at her and did a sarcastic frown back and said to me "I keep making this face at her, but I think she doesn't get sarcasm yet."
We can barely wait for her to be big enough to throw around and for her to start expressing real ideas to us with signs/words. Fun times.
As a followup to an earlier post on environmental and cost considerations with diaper systems - here is our current experience.
We went to a cloth diaper workshop at Belly Bliss and ended up more confused by the amount of options out there. In addition to the workshop, our friends had recommended either ImseVisme covers with inserts washed by a Boulder-based diaper service or the gdiaper system, washing the inserts ourselves.
In one of our classes at the Mountain Midwifery they introduced us to the "Happiest Baby on the Block" concept from Dr. Harvey Karp (video below):
We did a cankle check earlier when Nikki felt like she was really retaining some water in the days around her due date. Now we've got the follow up post.
Our due date was this past Sunday - 4 days ago - but so far no munchkin. Contractions have been coming sporadically getting stronger, but without any consistency. In spite of all our best efforts (spicy food, pineapples, spicy food that contains pineapples) there has been little progress.
And the fans are getting restless. The two of us are trying to keep our calm, but we can't help feeling anxious for some action. Frequent check-ins from friends and family are extremely sweet, but also remind us that the little man is not here yet.
Today at our scheduled appointment the midwife "swept the membrane" to help get things kickstarted. As we get ready to sleep tonight Nikki's having lots more contractions with greater frequency.
I think the question of whether they are cheaper and better for the environment depends on whether you use a diaper service or wash them yourself. At least in Colorado washing yourself the cost is about $1,000 for washing yourself vs. $2,500 for a diaper service and $2,000 for disposables. Once you factor in that the $1,000 is a one time investment in re-usable stuff, when you have a second kid the cost-per-kid of washing yourself drops to ~$650 (detergent and replacing any covers that fall apart). Washing yourself is a little more work, but it also means one less thing to buy at the grocery store and fewer trips to the trash dumpster.
From an environmental perspective...it somewhat depends on how you weigh the factors.
So, my cankles (calf+ankle) are getting kind of big. We decided to measure them to see what the change is from before birth to after.
So, here we are at 39 weeks of pregnancy and...
In a few weeks we'll have to measure again and see how it goes!
I always assumed Belly Bliss was yet another overpriced baby clothes boutique in Cherry Creek North, but it has been one of my favorite places during pregnancy.
Belly Bliss offers an array of yoga and pilates classes both during and after pregnancy. All the classes I've been to are great and around the same prices as other prenatal yoga places in Denver. An occasionally offered class is a partner yoga class, where you can bring a partner and practice poses that can help get you into a deeper stretch both in class and at home.
From maternity to baby clothes, cloth diapers, slings and other items a parent-to-be may desire, Belly Bliss provides a small but unique collection of items.
